Selections from Hardy's Short Stories -- Advocates of Moral Tolerance (English-Chinese Contrast)

Author: Hardy He Peng He Peng
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2000-01-01
Features: Although the selected stories in this book cannot represent the full scope of Hardy's short fiction, they still offer a glimpse. Except for the ending of "The Three-Gated Cross" which has a comedic tone, the stories themselves are not devoid of humor. The endings of the other stories are mostly about loss and death. Part of the reason is that he developed a pessimistic philosophy early in his life, believing that an amoral and ruthless force governs the universe, and humans are mere victims of this force.
