Features: Any contemporary study of Chinese intellectuals inevitably carries the characteristic of self-interpretation by the intellectuals themselves. This book blends academic principles with the framework of intellectual history, further highlighting this characteristic: it presents the principles of intellectual studies from the perspective of the contemporary Chinese humanistic spirit and the dilemmas of intellectuals, demonstrating the principles of intellectual studies; it uses the principles of intellectuals as a universal coordinate to indicate the position of contemporary Chinese humanistic intellectuals. The fundamental issue of modern Chinese intellectuals is to respond to and save the crisis of the nation-state. Therefore, the humanistic trends and self-reflection of intellectuals that emerged since the 1980s are highly noteworthy phenomena. This is not only an intellectual history phenomenon but also a transformation of social structures. It is hoped that in the future, a phenomenological description combined with ethnographic methods can more accurately indicate that it was in the late 1960s and early 1970s that a nascent group of critical humanistic intellectuals emerged in China, following the late Ming period. It should be noted that to highlight this new quality, this book emphasizes the distinction and independence of humanistic intellectuals from the secular society. The other aspect that remains unexplored is that the humanistic meaning arises from secular life and accumulates as the "everyday mind" of the life world. The author will address this in another study on the aesthetics of daily life.
