Features: This book is written based on the long-term teaching and clinical experience of optometry engineering teachers at Tianjin Vocational University. It is a specialized teaching material for optometry and eyewear technology, providing systematic learning of optometry theory. The book meets the needs of the development of optometry and eyewear in China, introducing fundamental theories of optics and some practical issues in optometry. The course content of basic theories includes: wave optics, basic geometric optics, and the fundamental theories and calculations required for correcting hyperopia, myopia, astigmatism, presbyopia, and strabismus, such as spherical lenses, cylindrical lenses, prisms, multifocal lenses, lens design, and special eyewear design. The practical part of optometry and eyewear explains the principles and advantages of coated glasses and polarized lenses; lens equivalent power; magnification of corrective lenses; and the principles and techniques for correcting anisometropia. The optometry theory includes: anatomy and physiology of the visual organs; clinical refractive errors; refractive examinations and binocular vision function tests. The optometry and eyewear course content includes: objective eye examinations (retinoscopy and computerized refraction); subjective eye examinations (principles and steps of various subjective examination methods, and the composition and application of the phoropter); and contact lens fitting.
