44. Bold and Meticulous
A professor from a medical college told his students in class, "When it comes to being a doctor, the key is to be bold and meticulous!" After saying this, he dipped a finger into a cup of urine on the table, placed it in his mouth, and then handed the cup to the students. Watching each student endure their nausea and still stick their finger from the urine cup into their mouths, the professor smiled and said, "Good job, everyone is brave enough. But unfortunately, you lack meticulousness—you didn’t notice that I dipped my index finger into the cup but put my middle finger in my mouth!"
Lin’s Wisdom: Details reveal character; details determine success or failure.
45. A Hoof Nail
A merchant had made a large profit and was riding home on his horse. When he was not far from home, his servant noticed that a nail had fallen off the horse’s right hind hoof.
"Never mind," the merchant said, "We still have six hours left to go." He continued riding forward.
During a break, the servant reported to the merchant again, "The horse’s right hind hoof has come off. Should we put a new nail on it?"
"Let’s not bother," the merchant replied, "I’m in a hurry. We only have three hours left, and the horse should be able to manage."
After a short distance, the horse began to limp. After limping for a while, blood oozed from its hoof, and it finally fell, breaking its leg. The merchant had no choice but to dismount and, with his servant, carry their backpacks and walk home. By the time he arrived home, exhausted, it was already late at night.
Lin’s Wisdom: No mistake is too great to beed, but small errors are easily overlooked.
