Preface: At the broken point of the Unzhu Mountain.
■ The cliffs stand vertically, with two sides facing each other, resembling the banks of the Wu Gorge, forming a natural gate. Behind the gate, a vast expanse of sea appears, boundless and merging with the sky. In front of the gate is flat ground, covered in lush green grass and dotted with fallen fruits. The cliffs on both sides of the gate are dotted with numerous niches. Each niche contains a statue of a nude female figure holding various musical instruments in a playing pose. The mountain is lush with extraordinary trees, their leaves like jujubes, flowers golden in color with calyces like agates, and large flowers like lotuses, bearing fruits as large and round as peaches. The summit is shrouded in white clouds, blending with the sky.
In ancient times. On the day when Gonggong and Zhuanxu fought for the throne, it was dark and gloomy. After the curtain rises, there is a silence of several minutes, then a distant clamor begins. The goddesses place their musical instruments and slowly descend from the niches in the cliffs, looking around in all directions. One of the goddesses, who had once used the five-colored stones she had forged to mend the sky and drive away half of the darkness into the outer edge of the celestial sphere, now plays silent music in this beautiful world.
How many times has the moon been full, sending its light to carry the waves of life. But why can our music today never be harmonious? Is there some great calamity looming in the universe? — Listen! The clamorous sound grows louder and closer! Is it the sound of waves in the sea? The sound of wind in the sky? Or could it be— the clamor of sin?
Another goddess: Wasn’t there a group of warriors and barbarians passing by this Unzhu Mountain just now? Saying they were going to fight for some leader, causing quite a ruckus! Sisters, what should we do? The five-colored celestial sphere looks like it’s about to break! The tired sun is sleeping in the sky, not releasing even a bit of its scorching light waves.
