Features: The "Examination Syllabus" clearly defines the scope, methods, and requirements of the examination, serving as the fundamental basis for test question development and candidate preparation. From the perspective of educational measurement, the preliminary examination for the Unified Entrance Examination for Master's Degree Candidates is a norm-referenced test with strong selective properties. The development of the "Examination Syllabus" must consider both the state's requirements for selecting high-level talents and the undergraduate teaching and learning conditions in universities. Therefore, the newly added "Examination Syllabus" for the Unified Examination Professional Foundation Comprehensive, after thorough research and deliberation, comprehensively considers university undergraduate teaching plans, adhering to the principle of examining general knowledge, foundational, core courses, and teaching content, with a focus on the professional foundational knowledge, basic theories, and corresponding abilities required for graduate-level study.
After repeated research and discussion by experts, it was determined that the "Historical Foundations" syllabus should cover Ancient Chinese History, Modern Chinese History, Ancient World History, and Modern World History; the "Professional Foundation Comprehensive" for Education should include Principles of Education, Chinese and Foreign Educational History, Educational Psychology, and Educational Research Methods; and the "Professional Foundation Comprehensive" for Psychology should include General Psychology, Developmental and Educational Psychology, Experimental Psychology, and Psychometrics. In line with the reform requirements, the scope of examination for Western Medicine Comprehensive and Traditional Chinese Medicine Comprehensive was also expanded. The "Traditional Chinese Medicine Comprehensive" covers Basic Theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine Diagnosis, Chinese Materia Medica, Formulas, Internal Medicine of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Acupuncture and Moxibustion, with Acupuncture and Moxibustion being a newly added component. The "Western Medicine Comprehensive" covers Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Internal Medicine (including Diagnostics), and Surgery, with Diagnostics added to Internal Medicine.
In June 2006, the "Notice of the Ministry of Education on Reforming the Preliminary Examination Subjects of Some Discipline Categories for the 2007 Unified Entrance Examination for Master's Degree Candidates" (Teaching [2006] No. 9) proposed that the preliminary examination subjects and content for Education, History, and Medicine would be adjusted in 2007, reducing the number of subjects from four to three: Political Theory, Foreign Language, and Professional Foundation Comprehensive. The scope of the Professional Foundation Comprehensive would be moderately expanded compared to the original two professional courses. Under these three discipline categories, in addition to some disciplines and majors where the Professional Foundation Comprehensive is jointly developed by universities or self-developed, the Professional Foundation Comprehensive subjects for the three first-level disciplines of Education, Psychology, and History under the Education and History categories would be uniformly developed nationwide. For the Medicine category, some disciplines and majors still follow the unified development of Western Medicine Comprehensive or Traditional Chinese Medicine Comprehensive.
