Features: The history of fan painting can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty. According to Zhang Yanyuan's Records of Famous Paintings of Past Generations, during the Three Kingdoms period, Cao Cao once commissioned Yang Xiu to paint a fan for him. By the Tang Dynasty, the popularity of fan painting grew even more, and the fans were still round, hence the name "tuanshan" (round fan). During the Northern Song Dynasty, court painters became particularly fond of painting fans, and many fan paintings were left behind, with banana-shaped fans also appearing. The integration of calligraphy and painting on a single fan began in the Ming Dynasty, thanks to the emergence of folding fans. Due to the limited size of the fan, painting on it requires the artist to meticulously design lines, ink tones, and composition, and the brush cannot be lifted in the middle. This book is part of the series "Chinese Fan Painting Art" and primarily introduces the techniques for painting small-style flower-and-bird subjects in fan painting.
