Features: Yo-yos with different internal structures are suitable for different play styles. Yo-yo tricks are mainly divided into three categories:
Spinning Tricks: These tricks do not place the yo-yo back on the string during the performance, such as "Rocking" and "Magic Glove."
Whipping Tricks: These tricks have extremely short spinning times, almost instantaneous, before starting to retrieve. For example, "Lightning Fast."
Stringing Tricks: In stringing tricks, the spinning yo-yo is placed on the string. Examples include "Stringing" and "Two Weeks on the Ground."
Yo-Yo Structure: A yo-yo is generally composed of three parts: the body, the axle, and the bearing system. The body is the main part of the yo-yo, the inner axle connects the two sides, and the bearing system is installed on the inner axle to extend the spinning time. Below are some common terms related to yo-yo structure:
Inner Groove: The groove formed by the parallel flat parts inside the two sides of the yo-yo body. Under the condition that the yo-yo can retrieve, a larger inner groove gap is more beneficial for string tricks; conversely, under the condition that it does not get stuck on the string, a smaller inner groove gap is more helpful for whipping tricks.
Ball Cover: A cover placed on the surface of the yo-yo body, serving both aesthetic and weight adjustment purposes. Some yo-yos have removable ball covers, while others do not.
Yo-Yo String: A string attached to the bearing system, used to play with the yo-yo. (I know you all know this, but I still have to say it! ??)
A long string is folded in half to form two strands, then twisted into a helix—this is a yo-yo string. The string end is placed on the bearing, and the loop is placed on the finger. P8-9
