Features: With the increasing number of students learning to draw, there has been a surge in the publication of sketching teaching books. However, among the vast number of published sketching books currently available, there are not many of high quality. Here, we especially recommend the book Initial Practice of Portrait Sketching for College Entrance Examinations written by young lecturer Yao Haogang of Guangxi Art College. Lecturer Yao Haogang has been researching portrait sketching for decades and has accumulated extensive experience in teaching sketching. He has his own unique observational methods and expressive techniques for portrait sketching and has created a large number of portrait sketches. Initial Practice of Portrait Sketching for College Entrance Examinations elaborates in detail on the basic principles of portrait sketching and the personal experience accumulated over the years, introducing the specific steps and various methods of portrait sketching from simple to complex, from the surface to the inside. It also selects some classic works for appreciation, copying, and research. Especially, the book repeatedly emphasizes the interrelationship between holistic observation, scientific understanding, and artistic expression, enabling beginners to quickly grasp the correct sketching methods through learning. Here, we emphasize correctness because many students of sketching are unwilling to seriously study the basic shapes and steps of portrait sketching, only valuing the application of local techniques and surface light and shadow changes. They do not actively use sketching knowledge to express the subject but passively imitate it. Therefore, strictly following the steps and methods in Initial Practice of Portrait Sketching for College Entrance Examinations for sketching training will definitely help you enter the of art at an early stage.
