Luci is twelve years old this year. If you have secretly read Pipilù's Adventures, you must know she is Pipilù's sister. Why doesn't Luci share the surname with Pipilù? It turns out that their parents had an agreement: boys take the father's surname, and girls take the mother's surname. As a result, they had twins—a boy and a girl. So, the boy took the surname Pi, and the girl took the surname Lu, one named Pipilù and the other named Luci. Luci is not as mischievous as her brother; she doesn't like playing outside the house and prefers to play at home.
"Playing at home? How boring!" you might say. But Luci finds it exciting. Her walls, tables, and cabinets are all filled with her friends. Luci plays with them every day after finishing her homework. The ceiling has a small lump of white plaster, like a little dog. The wall has three nail holes, resembling a child's face. The strange grain patterns on the table look like high mountains, rivers, and Luci loves playing with these friends—naturally, talking to herself, which is very interesting.
That afternoon, Luci came home from school and started doing her homework. She had sharpened her pencil to a point and picked up a small knife to scrape the pencil lead on the table. The knife tapped the table surface gently. "Ouch!" A shout came from somewhere. Luci jumped in surprise. She turned around, but there was no one in the room! Luci continued scraping the pencil lead. "Ouch! It hurts so much!" Another shout came. "Who are you?" Luci grew a bit scared.
"I'm Tuan Tuan. Why are you stabbing me with a knife?" The voice came from the table surface! Luci took a closer look and saw that one of the wood grain patterns on the table resembled a little girl's face. She had known her before, but she had never spoken! "Sorry, did I hurt you?" Luci asked softly.
"It hurts enough for me to make a sound," Tuan Tuan replied, clearly dissatisfied. "I'll get some medicine for you." Luci stood up. "No need. Your medicine won't work on us," Tuan Tuan said.
"Us?" Luci asked in surprise.
"Yes! Us! You have your world, and we have ours. In our world, there are so many fun places." Tuan Tuan forgot about the pain and became excited.
Luci didn't expect that besides her own world, there was another world—a world that was incredibly fun—and it was right in her own home!
"Want to play with me?" Tuan Tuan liked Luci and had forgotten the earlier unpleasantness.
"Me?" Luci looked down at her body. "I'm too big to get in."
"Look at me, don't think about anything, and sit quietly for ten minutes, and you'll be able to come in." Tuan Tuan taught her.
"Really?"
"I'm not lying." Luci sat down, her eyes fixed on Tuan Tuan. She realized that it was hard not to think about anything. As soon as she pushed one thought out, another sneaked in. Her brain was like a train station, never empty.
Ten minutes passed, and Luci was still sitting there. "I can't get in," she said in frustration.
"Don't hurry. Try again. You need to be calm." Tuan Tuan said. Luci tried hard to push all her thoughts out. After a while, she felt her body floating and entered another world.
"See? You're in now!" Tuan Tuan said happily, pulling Luci's hand. Luci looked around and realized she really had entered. She looked again and saw that it was a truly magical world—one that even fairy tales couldn't describe.
Note:
Gentleness: Boys are mischievous, and girls are gentle. This is a physiological phenomenon. Of course, there are tomboy-like girls, but they are just tomboys and can't be as mischievous as boys. Pipilù loves running around outside, while Luci sits quietly at home, enjoying playing with the same things over and over. Actually, girls also have imagination, but they care more about their emotions. As long as something is theirs, their love for it can make boys jealous, and they also find it hard to understand.
