When should surgery be performed for hypospadias in children?

Patient's question:

I am from a different place and would like to ask Director Xie for help in arranging my child's surgery. Is that possible? Last year, we visited your hospital. The doctor said the child was too young and that it should be done after the second birthday. What should we do?

Doctor's answer:

Hypospadias is a common congenital malformation of the male lower urinary tract and external genitalia. The urethral meatus is located from the ventral side of the penis to the proximal end of the normal perineal urethral meatus. Most cases are accompanied by incomplete penile development, which is one of the most common congenital anomalies of the pediatric urogenital system. Urethroplasty is the only treatment for hypospadias. The surgery requires complete correction of penile curvature, the urethral meatus at the tip of the penis, standing urination, and normal sexual life after adulthood.
