Features: If reading and writing are the main ways and means to master cultural knowledge and improve humanistic literacy, serving as the foundation for scientific and technological and cultural and artistic endeavors, then sight-reading and singing are the essential content and skills for learning music knowledge and enhancing musical literacy. For activities such as musical performance, composition, and research, sight-reading and singing are indispensable foundations and important components. This textbook is divided into two parts: the upper part primarily focuses on learning basic music knowledge such as notation and score reading, while also providing theoretical preparation for developing abilities like sight-reading and singing. It does not cover fundamental music theory content that is not particularly essential for learning sight-reading and singing, such as the nature of intervals, chord structures, and key relationships. The lower part primarily focuses on learning basic musical skills such as reading and singing scores, while also enabling students to understand and consolidate the learned music knowledge through practical sight-reading in real music. This transforms rational understanding into perceptual experience, and validates rational understanding through perceptual experience, making sight-reading and singing complement each other in learning and training. Therefore, the sight-reading content selected for this textbook emphasizes mastering basic skills, and does not include more challenging unison sight-reading, two-part sight-reading, or multi-part sight-singing. The textbook primarily uses treble clef notation, supplemented by simplified notation; focuses on Western major and minor-key music, supplemented by Chinese folk music; and primarily uses fixed-do solfège, supplemented by movable-do solfège. Sight-reading and singing are organically integrated, with a progressive overall structure, making it suitable for both professional music basic education and national music quality education for teaching and self-study. This textbook is one of the series results of the Hubei Provincial Department of Education research project "Standardization Research on Basic Music Education Textbooks" (Project No.: 2004Z001).
