Features: Matisse was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1940 and is currently teaching at the Berlin University of the Arts. His artistic creation is filled with avant-garde, sharp, provocative yet poetic spirit. In his teaching activities, he has always advocated the spirit of being unconventional, daring, experimental, and provocative. Matisse's poster achievements are world-renowned. He has received numerous international awards, such as the Gold Medal of the German Poster Museum in Essen, Germany (1976), the Gold Medal of the Warsaw Poster Biennial (1980), the Edwin-Scharff Award in Hamburg, the Bronze Award of the Colorado International Poster Exhibition (1981), the First Prize of the Tokyo Poster Design Competition in Japan (1982), the Silver Award of the Essen Poster Triennial for Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1984), the Silver Award of the Art Directors Club of New York (1997), and the Gold Medal of the Essen Poster Triennial and the Gold Medal of the Warsaw Poster Biennial (1990). Ishiko Ishikawa defined design as: 1. Eternity; 2. Revolution; 3. Originality. I would like to recommend her design philosophy to Chinese design classrooms. The triangle concept embodies the interpretation of technology, courage, creativity, and cultural heritage in design academia. You may not agree with my statement of elevating design to an academic realm, but the existence of design education is an acknowledgment of design academia. Design is a systematic discipline with teachable and learnable history and theory, and it continues to evolve in countless directions. The pillar of academic research is the scientific spirit. Understanding this spirit is like a designer realizing that every design is first a job. So when you see a three-month crash course in graphic design in the newspaper again, you can't help but smile knowingly. Hegemann, Yerden, Less, Josserand, Matisse, and Professor Wachsmann are undoubtedly outstanding graphic designers of this era. This series of books introduces their understanding of design and their methods of design education, most importantly, it also introduces the creations of young designers influenced by them. I am once again grateful for their assistance! I am also grateful to the China Youth Publishing House! Postscript: Three people walk together, and there must be a teacher among them!
