Can amniocentesis determine if it's a boy or a girl?

Patient's question:

My husband and I both love children. After we got married, we always tried to have a child as soon as possible. Fortunately, we did, and I am very excited for the baby to be born soon. I also really want to know if the baby inside is a boy or a girl. I heard that a person can have an amniocentesis, and I wonder if amniocentesis can determine if it's a boy or a girl?

Doctor's answer:

Analysis of the condition: During pregnancy, there is no such test as amniocentesis to determine if the baby is a boy or a girl. The gender of the fetus can be determined through an ultrasound examination.
Advice: Dear lady, it is recommended that you wait until the fetus has developed sufficiently after the third month of pregnancy to have an ultrasound to determine if it is a boy or a girl. While amniocentesis can definitively confirm the gender, it carries significant risks, and a mistake could lead to miscarriage. At three months pregnant, you could ask a trusted person to have the ultrasound technician at the hospital tell you. I hope my answer is helpful to you.
