What is trichomoniasis vulvitis?

Patient's question:

What is trichomoniasis vulvitis?

Doctor's answer:

Hello; Trichomoniasis is an infection acquired from the outside world. For a contagious disease to spread, it must meet three conditions: a source of infection, a transmission route, and susceptible individuals. For trichomonads, anyone can be infected, but those with altered vaginal pH or weakened immunity are more susceptible. After contracting trichomonads, very few patients can recover on their own, and even if cured, they can still be reinfected. The source of trichomoniasis is infected individuals and contaminated objects. As for transmission routes, there are two types: direct transmission (sexual transmission) and indirect transmission. Abroad, vaginal trichomoniasis is mainly spread through sexual contact, so it is classified as a sexually transmitted disease. In China, the modes of transmission differ. Due to China's large population and relatively underdeveloped public health facilities compared to developed countries, transmission in public places has also become an important route. For example, if the seats in public baths or toilet seats in public restrooms are contaminated with the secretions of infected individuals, subsequent users who sit directly on them may become infected. Public bath tubs, densely populated summer pools with inadequate disinfection, borrowing someone else's underwear, or renting swimwear can all lead to the spread of trichomonads. Additionally, sharing bathtubs among family members and cross-infection in medical settings are also causes of indirect transmission of trichomonads.
