Patient's question:
What are the symptoms and complications of cervical erosion?Doctor's answer:
Hello! Cervical erosion is one of the most common causes of gynecological diseases. It is caused by mechanical stimulation or injury, such as sexual intercourse, miscarriage, and delivery lacerations, as well as bacterial invasion, leading to cervical inflammation. The pathogens commonly invading include general pyogenic bacteria such as staphylococcus, streptococcus, gonococcus, diplococcus, tuberculosis, viruses, actinomyces, and trichomonas, all of which can cause cervical inflammation.Clinical manifestations: Cervical erosion is the most common local feature in the progression of chronic uterine inflammation. Due to the immersion of inflammatory secretions, the squamous epithelium of the cervix degrades and is replaced by columnar epithelium from the cervical canal, resulting in cervical erosion. Clinically, cervical erosion is divided into three degrees (I, II, III) based on the size of the affected area.
Main symptoms include:
- Increased leukorrhea: Increased leukorrhea is the main symptom of this condition. Typically, the leukorrhea is milky or light yellow and purulent, sometimes bloody or mixed with blood streaks.
- Itching and pain in the external genitalia: Due to increased leukorrhea, the external genitalia and vagina may develop secondary infections such as vulvitis or vaginitis, leading to itching and pain.
- Pain in the lower abdomen and lumbosacral region: In more severe cases, inflammation can spread along the uterosacral and main ligaments, causing pelvic connective tissue inflammation and resulting in pain in the lower abdomen or lumbosacral region, accompanied by a sense of heaviness.
- Frequent urination or difficulty urinating: When inflammation affects the trigone area or surrounding bladder, symptoms such as frequent urination or difficulty urinating may occur.
- Infertility: Thicker leukorrhea hinders sperm penetration, so severe cervical inflammation can lead to infertility.
The Women's and Children's Center of the People's Armed Police Hospital has introduced the American LEEP (Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure) technology to treat cervical diseases. This technology uses a metal wire to conduct high-frequency alternating current (3.8 MHz), rapidly heating the tissue and causing intracellular moisture to form steam waves, which quickly cut the tissue with a depth of up to 0.7 cm. The coagulation effect after cutting can effectively destroy the lesion, making it the most suitable treatment for cervical erosion today!
Wishing you good health!
