I would like to ask if I or my future descendants will have this genetic condition?

Patient's question:

My mother will suffer from schizophrenia the day after tomorrow. Our family does not have a history of this.

Doctor's answer:

Extensive genetic research on schizophrenia can only indicate that the onset of schizophrenia is related to genetics, but it cannot conclusively determine that schizophrenia is a genetic disorder. From pedigree studies of schizophrenia, it has been found that the prevalence rate of schizophrenia among family members of patients is 6.2 times higher than that of the general population. When patients with schizophrenia marry healthy individuals, the probability of their children developing schizophrenia is 16.4%. If both partners are patients with schizophrenia, the probability of their children developing schizophrenia is 39.2%. Therefore, it appears that schizophrenia indeed has a certain genetic tendency, but not all children of schizophrenia patients will develop the disorder.
