What is the reason for the anterior vestibular gland cyst to disappear and shrink on its own?

Patient's question:

Last week, I noticed that the two labia were not the same size. The left labia had a hard lump inside, about the size of a quail egg, and it couldn't be touched. Walking was painful. When I went to the hospital for a check-up, it was diagnosed as a Bartholin's gland cyst. The doctor said surgery was necessary. I wanted to have the surgery after the National Day holiday, but after returning, I received two days of penicillin injections. Yesterday, I suddenly noticed that it had shrunk, and today it is almost gone, and it doesn't hurt anymore.

Doctor's answer:

The Bartholin gland cyst is caused by excessive vaginal discharge or vaginal inflammatory plugs, leading to the closure of the Bartholin gland orifice. Severe inflammation results in larger cysts, while the cysts can shrink as the inflammation subsides.
Recommendations:
If the swelling is too severe, it may rupture spontaneously, releasing pus and leading to recovery. However, the rupture site will close, causing the cyst to swell again and recur. If a pouch is created to form a new artificial opening, the mucus and debris within the Bartholin gland can be drained, preventing further recurrence.
