Maslow's complete bibliography
Maslow's famous paper, "A Theory of Human Motivation," was first published in Psychological Review in 1943. His motivation theory is also known as the Hierarchy of Needs, which posits that human motivation and the fulfillment of needs are closely related. The hierarchy of needs is divided into different levels, with lower-level needs being physiological, followed sequentially by safety, love and belonging, respect, and self-actualization. Self-actualization refers to the full realization of one's potential. The pursuit of self-actualization is the highest motivation, characterized by devotion to a cause. Higher levels of self-actualization involve transcending oneself and hold significant social value. The function of a healthy society lies in promoting the universal self-actualization of its members. He believed that the human nature endowed by biological evolution is fundamentally good. The more mature a person is, the more creative they become. Evil and neurosis are products of the environment. He authored works such as Motivation and Personality (1954), Toward a Psychology of Being (1962), Psychology as a Science of Man (1967), and The Farther Reaches of Human Nature (1970).
