What causes fungal vulvitis?

Patient's question:

Vaginal itching, excessive discharge, and a slightly unpleasant odor.

Doctor's answer:

Hello, candidal vulvovaginitis occurs when the body's resistance is weakened or the antagonistic balance among microorganisms is disrupted. Pregnancy, diabetes, vulvar injury or maceration, and the use of immunosuppressive drugs such as oral contraceptives and antibiotics can all easily promote the occurrence of candidal vulvovaginitis.
Guidance:
For the treatment of candidal vulvovaginitis, a 2%-3% soda solution can be used to rinse the vulva and vagina or for sitz baths. After gently drying, nystatin suppositories can be placed deep into the vagina, or nystatin cream can be applied to the vaginal walls. This should be done once nightly or twice daily (morning and evening) for a total of 10-14 days. During treatment, both partners should be treated simultaneously to avoid cross-infection, and sexual activity should be avoided. For those prone to recurrence, a combination of oral medication and local treatment is recommended. Avoid tight underwear and using unclean rinsing utensils.
