What are the symptoms of acute cervicitis?

Patient's question:

I have recently often felt some pain in my vagina while urinating, and my lower body has also had a persistent odor. When I went to the hospital for a check-up, they said I had acute cervicitis.

Doctor's answer:

Hello, most patients with acute cervicitis are asymptomatic. Those with symptoms primarily manifest as increased vaginal discharge, which is mucopurulent. The stimulation of vaginal discharge can cause external genital itching and burning sensation. Additionally, symptoms such as intermenstrual bleeding and postcoital bleeding may occur. If there is a concurrent urinary tract infection, symptoms like urinary urgency, frequency, and dysuria may appear. If the infection is caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae, due to involvement of the paraurethral glands and Bartholin's glands, there may be congestion and edema of the urethral and vaginal mucosa, along with a large amount of purulent discharge.
