Will pubic symphysis diastasis occur postpartum?

Patient's question:

I gave birth last December. Previously, I had no symptoms, but now my groin area is particularly painful. I have to rest after walking for a while. Additionally, my right lower limb feels swollen and painful, accompanied by numbness. After undergoing examinations, the doctor said it was osteophyte formation. I then went to another hospital for further examination, and they diagnosed it as sacroiliitis.

Doctor's answer:

Generally speaking, this condition rarely occurs postpartum, but for a small number of people, the separation of the pubic symphysis is due to incorrect pelvic alignment rather than simply hormonal sensitivity, which may lead to persistent pain. Most women may experience the recurrence of pubic symphysis separation during their next pregnancy, but it is usually not as severe as the first time. Hormonal changes from breastfeeding do not cause postpartum pubic pain, so pregnant women do not need to worry excessively.
