Features: In the 5th century BC, the ancient Greek physician Hippocrates first proposed the theory of temperament. He believed that there are four humors in the human body: blood, phlegm, yellow bile, and black bile. The temperament mentioned here is different from the general sense of style or demeanor; it refers to "temperament," "character," or "personality," which are elements of individual psychological characteristics. It marks the dynamic features that each person exhibits during psychological activities or in their behavioral patterns, such as intensity, speed, stability, and flexibility. Analyzing temperament from the perspective of the characteristics of higher nervous activity, i.e., the characteristics of the cerebral cortex, the famous Russian physiologist Pavlov believed that temperament reflects three properties of the nervous system: intensity, flexibility, and balance. Higher nervous activity can be divided into four types: strong/flexible (sanguine), strong/balanced (phlegmatic), strong/unbalanced (choleric), and weak (melancholic).
