Can women with candidal vulvovaginitis get pregnant?

Patient's question:

I have candidal vaginitis, and my discharge has been like toothpaste these past few days. However, it's my ovulation period right now. I really want to get pregnant. I'd like to ask if I can get pregnant in this condition?

Doctor's answer:

Hello, it is recommended to get pregnant after being cured. During pregnancy, candidiasis of the vagina is prone to recurrence. For stubborn cases, oral ketoconazole or clotrimazole can be taken to eliminate intestinal candidiasis, or topical miconazole can be used. During treatment, sexual intercourse should be avoided, and underwear should be changed, washed daily, and boiled for disinfection. After one course of treatment, the candidiasis test should be negative. Subsequently, the candidiasis test should be negative after each menstrual cycle during follow-up. Continuous consolidation treatment for three courses is considered cured. It is best for the male partner to be treated simultaneously as well. Shoes and socks should be washed separately from underwear. Condoms are recommended during sexual intercourse. Otherwise, it is easy to recur. The reasons for recurrence are generally incomplete treatment and reinfection from the sexual partner.
