Did I get orchitis when I was a child, will I be infertile when I grow up?

Patient's question:

When I was a teenager, around 14 or 15, I once had orchitis. After treatment with intravenous fluids, the left testicle basically disappeared and is now gone. Now only the right testicle remains. Since then, no other problems have occurred. I am now 23 and have previously had a habit of masturbation, not very frequently. I have a girlfriend now, and we have been together for 2 years. We haven't had any children yet. Could this be a case of infertility?

Doctor's answer:

Patients with a history of testicular inflammation may cause obstruction of the vas deferens and epididymal ducts, leading to azoospermia. It is recommended that you undergo a semen examination and diagnosis promptly. Generally, only one testicle is sufficient for normal fertility. If you are concerned, you can have a check-up at the hospital.
