How to treat habitual abortion?

Patient's question:

Three years ago, when I just got married, I got pregnant soon after. During the pregnancy, I was very careful, but later I experienced abdominal pain and a small amount of bleeding, and I miscarried after a short period of time. The following year, I got pregnant again and was even more careful than before, but in the end, I miscarried once more.

Doctor's answer:

From the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine, habitual abortion is generally believed to be caused by insufficient kidney qi and a lack of firmness in the Chong and Ren meridians. Therefore, it is recommended to tonify the kidneys and spleen, strengthen qi, and nourish blood before pregnancy. During the menstrual period, the medication should be discontinued, with a two-month course being considered a complete treatment. It can be taken for 1 to 3 courses. Habitual late-term abortion is often caused by cervical insufficiency. For pregnancy-related habitual late-term abortion due to cervical insufficiency, cervical cerclage is typically performed between the 16th and 22nd weeks of gestation to maintain the pregnancy until the later stages or even full term.
