Morphology: Annual herb, 30–80 cm tall. Erect or inclined stems with roots at the base. Cylindrical stipules; lanceolate leaves with a narrow base, dark brown glands on both sides, pungent flavor. Long racemose inflorescences, often interrupted at the base, axillary or terminal, with sparse flowers. Usually 3–5 flowers clustered within bracts, pale green or pinkish corolla, densely covered with purplish-red glands.
Ecology: Grows along water edges and wet roadside areas. Prefers sunlight, tolerates waterlogging, adaptable to various soils.
Distribution: Found throughout China; also distributed in Europe, Central Asia, India, North Korea, South Korea, and Japan.
Cultivation: Self-propagates.
