Why do gynecological infections always recur?

Patient's question:

I had pelvic inflammatory disease over a year ago, which eventually led to cervical erosion. During that time, I kept undergoing treatment until I had a LEEP surgery (I have never given birth). During the follow-up, the doctor said my recovery was good. After that, my vaginal discharge has been yellowish-green, and I have been taking medication as prescribed. The doctor also said there was no problem and told me not to worry. However, it seems my discharge has remained abnormal, and despite repeated medication, it hasn’t improved. Recently, an ultrasound revealed a large amount of fluid in my pelvis, and the doctor said it could be due to inflammation. Why do my gynecological issues never seem to get better? I’m really afraid of developing cervical erosion again. What should I do?

Doctor's answer:

Hello;
You don't need to be overly anxious or worried. Early detection and timely treatment are what matter.
Common types of leukorrhea (vaginal discharge)
① White leukorrhea: Color white, thin and watery or thick, odorless, or white like rice water or bean curd. Common in uterine fibroids, trichomoniasis, and candidiasis.
② Yellow leukorrhea: Color yellow, thick or thin, with a foul odor. Common in cervical inflammation, adnexal inflammation, and senile vaginitis.
③ Reddish leukorrhea: Color light red, thick or thin, with an odor. Common in vaginitis and severe cervical erosion. If brown, it may be caused by an intrauterine device (IUD).
④ Reddish-white leukorrhea: Mixed with blood, alternating red and white, thick, with an odor. Common in cervical polyps.
⑤ Purulent leukorrhea: Abundant like pus, or purulent blood, foul odor, often accompanied by vaginal itching, pain, abdominal pain, and fever. Common in vaginitis, acute or subacute pelvic inflammation, and gonorrhea.
⑥ Five-colored leukorrhea (heterogeneous leukorrhea): Abundant, like pus but not pus, like blood but not blood, thin and watery with foulness, or thick like cream, yellow like spoiled mustard, with a terrible odor. Common in vaginal foreign body infection or malignant tumors.
Chronic cervical erosion and vaginitis often cause menstrual disorders, infertility, and other diseases.
