Features: The theme of this book is the history of the Xiongnu. However, in Chinese history, there were the Beidi before the Xiongnu. During the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, the Beidi held a very important position in Chinese history. Therefore, to discuss the Xiongnu, one must first discuss the Beidi. After the Xiongnu, many tribes and ethnic groups merged with them, such as the Tiefe (Fa) Xiongnu, the Dugu Xiongnu, the Tuoba Xianbei, the Tuoba Xianbei, the Lu Shui Hu, and later, the Jihu Hu. Therefore, all of these should be mentioned in the history of the Xiongnu. Only the Tuoba Xianbei and the Tuoba Xianbei are briefly mentioned here, and their detailed accounts will naturally be found in the history of the Xianbei, without further discussion. The book is titled "Beidi and Xiongnu," simply indicating that there were Beidi before the Xiongnu. The narrative in this book naturally only discusses the Xiongnu in Chinese history. It offers some preliminary views on the ethnology, language, culture, and social systems of the Xiongnu, and it is meaningful to address the errors previously raised by Western sinologists.
