Patient's question:
Hello, we've been married for five years and haven't had any children. Three years ago, we tried in vitro fertilization, but it wasn't successful.Doctor's answer:
The first-line treatment for fallopian tube blockage is in vitro fertilization (IVF). The fallopian tubes are delicate tubes with cilia on the mucosal lining of their lumen, which can move to transport sperm and embryos. Before the advancement of IVF technology, our only option was to use a catheter to clear the fallopian tubes, hoping for a small chance of pregnancy. With IVF technology, we can extract sperm and eggs, fertilize them in vitro, and then gently transfer the resulting embryos back into the uterine cavity. The success rate for each embryo transfer cycle is around 55%, and it significantly reduces the risk of ectopic pregnancy. Therefore, I personally do not recommend catheterization for clearing fallopian tubes. It is essential to seek treatment at hospitals. I know of a few hospitals: Shandong University Qilu Hospital, Linyi Maternal and Child Health Hospital, and Linyi People's Hospital.
