Features: Waterhouse (1849-1917): A Pre-Raphaelite painter. Born in Italy, his father was a painter of the Victorian era in Britain, and both his mother and aunt had a deep understanding of art. In his early academic education, he was influenced by the Dutch painter Alma-Tadema in the second half of the 19th century, showing great interest in Eastern mysticism, religion, and customs. At his first exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in Britain, he entered with a series of paintings on Eastern themes. His paintings are known for their elegance and are highly romantic. Drawing nourishment from classical myths of ancient Greece and Rome, he created works with a medieval dreamlike mysticism and religious sentiment. Waterhouse's paintings made unique contributions to the Pre-Raphaelite movement, and his brilliant painting skills earned him fame in the British art scene at the time. Waterhouse's early works mostly lacked a narrative, focusing primarily on portraits. However, due to his exceptional technique and religious themes, they attracted buyers, and these paintings were often collected by private individuals, allowing young artists to earn substantial income. During this period, his favorite model was his sister. Her image appeared in several of his works.
