Considering the historical development of foreign literature, the current level of domestic research on foreign literature, and the teaching resources available, this tutorial primarily focuses on Western and European literature, with a brief overview of Asian and African literature in a single chapter. Given the uniqueness and complexity of Russian literature and its relationship with the 20th century, this tutorial dedicates a separate chapter to 20th-century Russian literature. The book mainly introduces the main figures and general of ancient Europe, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and Western and European literature from the 17th to the 20th centuries. The writing principle of this book is to combine systematic introduction with highlighting key points, striving for brevity and clarity. The purpose of this course is to enable students to systematically grasp the basic development of foreign literature, gain a deeper understanding of representative writers and works from each period, and gradually cultivate their interest and ability to appreciate and analyze foreign literary works.
