Features: Franz Liszt, the Hungarian composer and pianist, showed extraordinary musical talent from a young age. At the age of eleven, he was sent by his father to Vienna to study music. Six months later, he gave his debut performance at the Vienna Congress Music Hall in late 1822, causing a sensation in the Vienna music world. At twelve, Liszt went to Paris for his first performance, which marked the beginning of his professional performing career. Thereafter, he toured France, Britain, and various parts of Europe, receiving praise from the European music world and royal nobility, quickly establishing himself as a renowned pianist. He gained fame for his brilliant and extraordinary techniques, becoming immensely celebrated for a time.
Liszt's piano etudes are of advanced level and have never been published domestically (the "Selected Piano Works of Liszt" by the People's Music Publishing House includes only a few of them). However, for two reasons—first, there are thousands of students who have passed the national Level 10 exams, and second, there is a strong need in professional teaching (especially for contestants)—this edition has been compiled. Professor Yao Shizhen of Shanghai Conservatory of Music has revised and edited this volume based on three excellent versions (Moscow Music Publishing House, American Dover Publishing House, and German Peters Publishing House), publishing it in two formats. This book includes Liszt's Paganini Etudes, three concert etudes, and two concert etudes. The editor has provided annotations based on multiple international versions.
