About Kunming
Kunming is located in the middle of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, with geographical coordinates at 120°45′ east longitude and 25°7′ north latitude. The city has an elevation of 1,891 meters and is surrounded by mountains on three sides, with the "Jade Lake of the Plateau," Dianchi Lake, to its south. The Panlongjiang River, a tributary of the Yangtze River, flows through the city. The magical combination of these geographical factors makes Kunming one of the few cities in the world that experiences neither scorching heat in summer nor biting cold in winter, earning it the titles of "Spring City" and "Flower Capital."
Thanks to its uniquely mild climate, Kunming boasts a picturesque scenery with grass growing, birds flying, peach blossoms and willows in full bloom, lush mountains, clear waters, and a profusion of flowers. This has led to the construction of pavilions, mansions, temples, and palaces by high-ranking officials, dignitaries, Buddhist monks, and Taoist priests throughout history. As a result, Kunming is dotted with famous historical sites and traditional gardens throughout the city and along the shores of Dianchi Lake, all embodying the unique cultural characteristics of southwestern China.
