Features: This book is the second edition of "Bridge Design 100 Questions." Based on the previous edition, the following revisions have been made: 1. New achievements in bridge science and engineering technology in recent years have been incorporated, with some content added and updated. Reference data for completed large bridges have been provided, and the number of questions has increased from 427 in the previous edition to the current 500; 2. A comprehensive introduction has been given to the newly issued "General Code for Highway Bridge and Culvert Design (JTGD60--2004)," "Code for Highway Masonry Bridge and Culvert Design (JTJD61—2005)," "Code for Highway Reinforced Concrete and Prestressed Concrete Bridge and Culvert Design (JTGD62—2004)," and "Code for Highway Bridge Wind Resistance Design (JTG/T1)60-01—2004)"; 3. Additional worked examples for difficult problems have been added, such as the transverse distribution calculation of curved and continuous beams, the calculation of internal forces in control sections during the jacking process, the local stability calculation of compressed steel box girder bridges, simplified calculations for group piles, and the nonlinear effect calculation for high piers; 4. A more comprehensive explanation has been provided on the modeling methods for finite element analysis of bridge structures; 5. For the convenience of readers, an appendix titled "Keyword Index" has been added at the end of the book. The Hunan Provincial Communications Planning and Survey Design Institute has been responsible for a large number of bridge design projects over the years, including many innovative ones. To make this book more comprehensive and better meet the needs of design personnel, it has been specially invited to participate in the revision of the second edition. Hu Jianhua, a professor-level senior engineer and a special government allowance expert of the State Council, graduated from Hunan University in 1987 and currently serves as the Deputy Director of the Hunan Provincial Communications Planning and Survey Design Institute. He has led the completion of more than 20 large-scale and complex domestic and international bridge projects and has won more than 10 ministerial and national science and technology achievement awards. The Yueyang Dongting Lake Bridge, which he designed, won the First Prize of the Hunan Provincial Excellent Engineering Design Award in 2001, the Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2003, the Gold Award of the 10th National Excellent Engineering Design Award, and was selected as one of the "Top 10 Bridges of the 20th Century in China" in 2004. The Yiyang Maocai Street Bridge, which he designed, currently holds the world record for the span of a concrete-filled steel tube tied-arch bridge. The Guangdong Pingsheng Bridge, which he designed, is currently the world's largest under-construction self-anchored single-tower suspension bridge. The main members participating in the revision of this book include Shao Xudong, Hu Jianhua, Peng Wanghu, Jin Xiaojin, Liu Zhiwen, and Zhou Yadong. Deng Jun, Chang Ying, Zhu Jichao, Sun Xiaozhen, and Tang Huasheng compiled the preliminary draft, and Professor Cheng Xiangyun reviewed the entire book. Shao Xudong October 2005
