Features: University Chemistry: Principles and Applications is a foundational textbook for first-year students in applied chemistry programs at universities, developed based on years of practice in the integration and teaching reform of inorganic and analytical chemistry. It adheres to the teaching syllabus and credit requirements for chemistry and applied chemistry programs issued by the Ministry of Education. The book combines fundamental knowledge from the original four major branches of chemistry and is organized according to cognitive principles. While maintaining systematicity and applicability, it also emphasizes advanced and practical aspects. To better align with the teaching requirements of applied chemistry and engineering chemistry programs, this revision adds three chapters on instrumental analysis—Electrochemical Analysis, Absorption Photometry, and Gas Chromatography—while preserving the original features. The book remains divided into two volumes, covering topics such as the aggregation states of substances, basic chemical thermodynamics (qualitative content of the first, second, and third laws of thermodynamics), and chemical kinetics. It also includes the four major equilibria (acid-base, redox, precipitation-dissolution, and coordination equilibria) and their applications (acid-base titration, redox titration, coordination titration, gravimetric analysis, electrochemical analysis, absorption photometry, and gas chromatography). Additionally, the book covers atomic and molecular structure fundamentals, the properties and applications of elements (nonmetallic elements, main-group metals, transition elements, etc., organized by periodic table regions), and compounds. It has been appropriately expanded to include cutting-edge knowledge in chemistry, such as novel coordination compounds, plasmas, preliminary knowledge of metrology, various advanced materials, new energy sources, and major environmental issues. This textbook is designed for first-year students in applied chemistry programs at universities and can also serve as a foundational chemistry course textbook for related disciplines.
