Du Mu Hongliang Discusses the Dream of the Red Chamber

Author: Du Mu Hongliang
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2006-05-01
Features: I read Dream of the Red Chamber year after year, always rereading it, reading it over and over again, never tiring of it. The main reason I love Dream of the Red Chamber is because of Cao Xueqin's realism. I once wrote a poem about this:
"Could cry for Daiyu until death, who understands the author's madness in this absurdity!
Half the book unread, life first ends,
Tears flow endlessly, not a poem."
I like him because of his realism. Cao Xueqin started with loving beauty and later reached the point of loving truth. True beauty must be real. For the sake of loving beauty, one also loves truth, and ultimately devoted oneself to the truth.
Dream of the Red Chamber is like a scorching meteorite that falls from the sky to the ground. Through friction with the atmosphere, it scatters countless sparks, emitting brilliant colors as it consumes itself. The stone lands on the ground and, after two hundred years of wind and frost, not only retains its heat but grows even hotter, multiple waves of heat and passion. This wave of heat has immense impact and strong attraction, which is why the world has the saying, "Endless Dream of the Red Chamber, boundless Cao Xueqin."
