Features: This book is a research-oriented work by the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronic Technology at Tsinghua University, based on over 20 years of research on relay protection for large units. The content primarily involves the design and research of generator protection for power stations such as the Three Gorges and Longtan. The first half of Chapter 1 systematically introduces the theoretical foundation of relay protection for large units—the "multi-loop analysis method," while the second half focuses on the main internal short-circuit protection of generators in power stations like the Three Gorges, Ertan, and Longtan. It summarizes design experiences from more than 20 power stations, breaking the long-standing traditional qualitative design approach both domestically and internationally, and for the first time proposes a quantitative and optimized design method for main protection of large units.
Chapter 2 conducts an in-depth study on the advantages and disadvantages of various neutral grounding methods for large generators. Taking the Three Gorges power station generator as the object, rigorous scientific experiments were conducted, and the optimal neutral grounding method for the Three Gorges power station generator is proposed.
Chapter 3 focuses on improving the sensitivity and reliability of stator single-phase grounding protection for large generators, proposing a new scheme for stator single-phase grounding protection that utilizes single-phase grounding fault components.
Chapter 4 presents digital simulation of internal transformer short circuits, proposing rigorous and scientific methods for correctly establishing simulation models of internal short-circuit transformers. Digital simulations and experimental validations were conducted on two power transformers for internal short circuits.
This book is primarily intended for professional technicians in relay protection and motor theory, especially those involved in the design, operation, and research of main equipment relay protection. It can also serve as a teaching reference for senior undergraduate students in relevant fields at universities.
