Can men with oligospermia due to testicular dysgenesis get pregnant?

Patient's question:

This year, when I went to the hospital for a check-up, the testicles were soft. The young doctor called it immaturity, underdeveloped, causing oligospermia. Sexual life is normal. I don't know how to treat it to get pregnant.

Doctor's answer:

Hello: A majority of infertile patients suffer from oligospermia. In normal semen, the sperm count is above 20 million/m1, and a count below 20 million/m1 is considered oligospermia. Between 5 to 10 million/m1, it is moderate oligospermia; below 5 million/m1, it is severe oligospermia. Common factors or causes of oligospermia include: (1) congenital testicular dysgenesis or cryptorchidism leading to impaired spermatogenesis (2) varicocele, hydrocele of the tunica vaginalis (3) reproductive tract inflammation (4) immune suppression and endocrine disorders (5) chromosomal abnormalities, especially sex chromosome aberrations, which severely affect sperm density and motility (6) the use of drugs, pesticides, heavy metals, radiation, smoking, and alcohol intoxication, all of which can inhibit sperm production. However, some patients still do not find any identifiable cause for their reduced sperm count after various examinations, a condition known as idiopathic oligospermia. It is recommended that you visit a specialized hospital for a detailed examination, to confirm the diagnosis, and to receive appropriate treatment. Do not miss the best time for treatment. Wishing you health!
