Features: Over the decades, we have engaged in the study of Peking Opera as amateurs, and during this process, we have gained profound insights. The profound and extensive art of Peking Opera is indeed a treasure of traditional Chinese culture. To revitalize and promote the development of this national culture, we have made a modest contribution—compiling Selected Peking Opera Scores.
The roles in Peking Opera, such as Sheng (male roles), Dan (female roles), Jing (painted-face roles), Mo (older male roles), and Chou (clown roles), are arranged based on the prominence of each role on stage. For hundreds of years, this arrangement has become customary and is widely accepted without controversy. However, the singing style of the Chou role is essentially derived from the Sheng style, so in this book, the singing style of the Chou role is classified under the Sheng category, placed after Sheng and Xiao Sheng, and referred to as "Chou Sheng."
