Features: "Days of Eating Potatoes" is not autobiographical literature, but since it involves some of my personal experiences, it can be considered autobiographical writing. The purpose of recording this life story is to inspire others. Of course, today's social environment in Hong Kong is vastly different from that of the 1950s. But I believe that even if most Hong Kong youth have seen improvements in their studies, employment, and lives today, there are still some exceptions. "Days of Eating Potatoes" is written for this group of people who have not been blessed by their parents or society. The "Recollections of Childhood" in the book was written in the 1980s but can be seen as a precursor to "Days of Eating Potatoes." Looking back, the days of eating potatoes were not as tormenting as those of my childhood. To achieve the set goals, enduring the wind and rain, working day and night, is also worthwhile. I believe there are many children in Hong Kong who have similar experiences to mine in childhood. I hope that after reading this book, they will be as determined as I was back then: grit their teeth and push forward.
