Features: This book is a selected compilation of documentary materials on Chinese cinema, covering the period from 1949 to 1979. It is well-known that these three decades were the heyday of literature and art serving politics, with cinema regarded as an important tool for propaganda. Therefore, to study the fundamental nature, development, and changes of cinema during these years, as well as its relationship with the New Period cinema, one cannot be limited to cinema itself. Accordingly, the selected materials in this book include not only cinema but also closely related fields such as politics and literature/arts. The selection of materials focuses on aspects such as political movements in the film industry, literary/artistic and cinematic policies, planning of cinematic themes and materials, and the performance of filmmakers during political movements. In terms of types, the majority are feature films, including documentary or pseudo-documentary films of interest after 1958. To illustrate the connections between historical events, this book includes materials published after 1979 that are related to certain main texts, listing them as appendices after these main texts for reference.
