How to treat varicocele

Patient's question:

Hello, how is varicocele treated?

Doctor's answer:

Varicocele refers to the dilation, tortuosity, and elongation of the pampiniform plexus (vein vascular plexus) in the spermatic cord caused by blood stasis in the spermatic veins. Varicocele can be accompanied by testicular atrophy and impaired sperm production, leading to male infertility. Mild varicocele without symptoms does not require treatment. For moderate varicocele or those accompanied by neurasthenia, measures such as supporting the scrotum and cold compresses can be applied. For severe varicocele, where the sperm count remains below 20 million for three consecutive times or there is testicular atrophy; if the dilated veins disappear when lying flat, the spermatic vein (high ligation of the spermatic vein) can be performed.
