Features: In contemporary Chinese literature, the creation of ethnic minority literature, especially works by most Xinjiang ethnic minority writers who use their mother tongue, has garnered increasing attention. This is not only because ethnic minority writers enrich contemporary Chinese literature with their diverse themes, artistic techniques, narrative styles, and unique characteristics, but also because many of their works profoundly reflect the combination of "ethnic identity" and "contemporary relevance." They convey the perspectives and insights of different ethnic groups in observing the times, life, society, and nature, showcasing the distinctive traditions and cultural features of their communities. These works demonstrate how entire ethnic groups progress through modernization in their own unique "ethnic forms," highlighting their journeys of optimism and forward momentum after experiencing complex, diverse transformations, contradictions, conflicts, and emotions, all within a framework of historical awareness.
During this pivotal period in contemporary China, when all 56 ethnic groups are undergoing significant social, cultural, and psychological transformations as they strive toward modernization, these works—particularly those with unique cognitive and aesthetic value—hold great importance. This significance plays a crucial role in furthering interethnic communication and mutual understanding, preserving the diversity of ethnic cultures while strengthening cross-cultural traditions in thought, ideas, and behavioral patterns. It contributes to maintaining national unity, fostering ethnic solidarity and harmony, achieving common prosperity and progress among all ethnic groups, and ultimately building a harmonious socialist society.
The important status and significance of contemporary ethnic minority literature underscore the importance of ethnic literature translation, driving the development of the literary translation industry.
