Is the harm of uterine malformation serious?

Patient's question:

I just got married and I'm very worried about not having children as a result. I just got married and found out I have uterine malformation. I'm too scared to tell my husband, what should I do? What are the risks? Will it affect fertility?

Doctor's answer:

1. Affects fertility
The position of the uterus itself does not reduce a woman's fertility; problems may occasionally occur even in women with uterine septum. However, women with unicornuate uterus have more difficulty getting pregnant because they have only one fallopian tube. However, we know very little about pregnancy in women with unicornuate uterus. Generally, uterine abnormalities do not affect pregnancy, but the presence of an abnormal uterus can make it difficult for expectant mothers to maintain pregnancy until the 9th month.
2. Causes miscarriage
The relationship between uterine abnormalities and miscarriage is currently unclear. However, a study on pregnancy outcomes in women with uterine abnormalities found that compared to women with normal uteri, these women have a higher rate of miscarriage. However, the rate of miscarriage varies depending on the type of uterine abnormality. For example, women with uterine septum have a higher risk of miscarriage than those with other types of uterine abnormalities.
3. Affects pregnancy
Women with uterine abnormalities, especially those with unicornuate uterus, are more likely to experience complications during pregnancy and childbirth, whether they conceive naturally or through assisted reproductive technology, compared to women with normal uteri. If the shape of the uterine cavity is abnormal, most babies will adopt a breech position in the womb instead of the normal head-down position. If the baby is breech, doctors will recommend a cesarean section, as it is currently believed to be the best delivery method for breech babies.
