Patient's question:
Can men with asthenozoospermia conceive naturally? I have this condition myself, and I'm wondering if asthenozoospermia can prevent women from conceiving naturally. I'm concerned that having asthenozoospermia might affect fertility.Doctor's answer:
Low sperm motility, also known as asthenozoospermia, refers to a condition where the percentage of progressively motile sperm (grades a and b) in semen parameters is less than 50% or the percentage of grade a motile sperm is less than 25%. There are many causes of low sperm motility, but the most common ones include: prolonged abstinence (increased number of dead sperm, decreased sperm viability), excessively high or low environmental temperatures for sperm, varicocele, inflammation or infection of the reproductive tract, immune suppression, endocrine disorders, certain medications that affect sperm production, radiation, as well as smoking and alcohol intoxication. It is recommended that you undergo a comprehensive etiological examination and actively treat the condition based on the identified causes.
