Patient's question:
Hello doctor, I have been married for about two years, and my wife has not been able to conceive. Three months ago, I went to the hospital for a check-up, and the results showed a severe case of dead sperm. After a period of treatment, there was still no improvement. Last week, I went for another check-up, and the result showed a normal sperm percentage of 20%. How can this be considered normal? What is the normal percentage of sperm? How can I get pregnant?Doctor's answer:
Normal semen volume: Approximately 2—5 ml, milky white, with liquefaction time of about 10—30 minutes.pH value: 7.2—8.0
Sperm total count: 20—60 million/ml
Sperm motility: 60%
Sperm vitality is divided into 4 grades:
- Grade a: Sperm motility is excellent, moving rapidly in a straight forward direction.
- Grade b: Sperm motility is good, moving straight forward.
- Grade c: Sperm motility is average, moving in place.
- Grade d: Sperm motility is poor, only moving in place.
Normal vitality is Grade a > 25% or AB > 50% (an internationally recognized standard).
