Features: This book compiles the author's papers on the Book of Songs, Chu Ci, and Han Dynasty Fu poetry. It has three characteristics: First, it studies the Book of Songs, Chu Ci, and Han Dynasty Fu poetry from the perspective of pre-Qin and Han cultural studies; Second, the author examines the Book of Songs, Chu Ci, and Han Dynasty Fu poetry from the complex web of various correlations; Third, the author emphasizes documentary evidence, starting from research materials, deriving arguments from history, and combining historical analysis with theoretical discussion. Here compiled are my papers on the Book of Songs, Chu Ci, and Han Dynasty Fu poetry, most of which have already been published. Since the Han people also called Chu Ci "Fu," the more elegant term was chosen for the book's title, "Discussions on Poetry and Fu." As for the appended essays, "Evaluating Gao Heng's Research on the Book of Songs from an Academic History Perspective" and "Commentary on Lu Kanru's Chu Ci Research," they are included for two reasons: First, Gao and Lu are both esteemed scholars in the study of the Book of Songs and Chu Ci, yet current academic evaluations of their research on these subjects vary; Second, the essays I review are precisely their studies on the Book of Songs and Chu Ci, so they are also included in this collection.
