Patient's question:
Hello: My son has hydrocele, about the size of a jujube, and he is now 3 and a half years old. Can it be treated without surgery? The patient is male, 3 and a half years old, and in good health. He was born with hydrocele, and when checked at the hospital, the doctor said it would absorb on its own and would disappear in a short time. This summer, while bathing the child, I noticed it had returned again. How is hydrocele treated?Doctor's answer:
2-year-old hydrocele can often be absorbed spontaneously, except for severe infection or cases with other complications that do not require treatment. Primary hydrocele has a short course, small amount of fluid, low, no obvious symptoms, and no testicular atrophy or male infertility, so treatment is not necessary. Traumatic hydrocele or acute inflammatory hydrocele should focus on treating the primary disease, with local heat application or physical therapy to promote absorption. If the fluid cannot be absorbed, further treatment can be considered later.
