Patient's question:
11th October, I underwent bilateral varicocele surgery, and the recovery was good. After playing basketball, I noticed swelling of the foreskin. During a follow-up examination of the spermatic cord, it was found that there was hydrocele of the right testis measuring 1.3. The semen analysis showed no white blood cells, and the epididymis was also fine. I would like to ask how to treat the hydrocele of the testis?Doctor's answer:
Hello, the treatment methods for hydrocele of the tunica vaginalis testis are as follows:Percutaneous aspiration. Hydroceles in newborn infants often resolve spontaneously within two years of age. If they persist after two years, percutaneous aspiration is performed. In most cases, recurrence does not occur after aspiration. This method is not suitable for adults, as aspiration in adults often leads to rapid recurrence.
Injection therapy. After aspiration, irritating drugs such as silicone and sodium selenite are injected into the tunica vaginalis to induce inflammatory adhesion, thereby eliminating the tunica vaginalis. Due to significant reactions and incomplete adhesion, this method poses greater challenges for surgical treatment and is used less frequently now.
Surgical treatment. Congenital hydroceles cannot be treated with the above two methods and are primarily treated with surgery. The goal of the surgery is to ligate the inguinal hernia at the internal ring and block the downward flow of abdominal fluid.
